Archdiocese of Toronto Launches World Youth Days Ad Campaign, Registration Hotline and Website As GTA Gears Up
For Historic Event!

TORONTO, June 13 /CNW/ - The Archdiocese of Toronto today officially launched a World Youth Days (WYD) advertising campaign that includes a new web site and a dedicated toll free number to handle the expected influx of registrations in the month and a-half before this summer's event.

"The purpose of the campaign is to encourage local registrations for what will be a once in a lifetime event for this city," said Terry Thompson, Director of Stewardship & Development, Archdiocese of Toronto. "We know the number of registrations in the Toronto area are still low right now, but that's not unexpected. In fact, we anticipate, as has been the case for past World Youth Day hosts, that the bulk of our local registrations will come in the six weeks leading up to the event."

All advertising, which includes internet, outdoor and transit ads, in-cinema slides and posters, newspaper, radio and TV, will direct people to the newly established Archdiocese toll free WYD phone number 1-866-WYD-in-TO (1-866-993-4686) and a special WYD site designed specifically for people in the GTA - www.wydtoronto.com.

In addition, there's also a roving WYD registration van and kiosks at various shopping malls and events like the upcoming Canada Day Celebrations at Downsview Park, CHIN International picnic and more. Toronto-specific registration forms are also available at all Catholic book stores in the Archdiocese.

Over 350,000 young people from around the world are expected in Toronto from July 23-28 for WYD - a celebration of youth, life, cultural diversity, faith and spirituality. The event will include youth festivals, concerts, special WYD outdoor cafes on the grounds of the CNE, and catechises. Pope John Paul II will officially welcome the world's youth at a ceremony on Thursday, July 25 before closing the gathering with a late night prayer service and open air Mass on Sunday, July 28.
