GUI (Graphical User Interface)
Remember when floppy disks were actually floppy? When "color monitor"
meant green type on a black screen? Back when a flashing cursor
was the only invitation you had to get started? Those were the dark
ages before computers had a graphical user interface, or GUI (pronounced
"gooey"). Your desktop, the icons (representing your hard drive,
trash, disks, documents, directories, and programs) that clutter
it, and the mouse-motivated cursor - with its drag-and-drop capabilities
- are all part of the GUI. When the interface alternative is command-line
operations, it's easy to get all gooey over the GUI.
