GIF, Animated GIF
Say "Jiff" (like the peanut butter), or say it with a hard "g"
(like "gift"). Or circumvent the whole toMAYto/toMAHto issue by
calling the GIF by its proper name: graphics interchange format,
which is a bit-mapped graphics file format popular for compressing
images to a file size that's manageable to download. (The other
image format found on the Web is JPEG). Several GIFs can be joined
into a single GIF89 file to create an animation. It may not be as
fancy or sharp as some more advanced animation formats, but GIF
animations are popular because they're memory-petite and almost
every browser can see them.
