FTP

FTP lets you transfer (upload and download) files from computer to computer. Like platforms, bitchin' feathers, and disco, FTP is a product of the '70s, when it was created to increase file-sharing between multiple users. FTPing is still en vogue (unlike, say, fringed-suede vests), remaining the preferred method of sending files over the Net. It used to be that you had to know a bunch of hectic Unix commands to FTP, but today, user-friendly programs like Fetch (Awwww! Look at the doggie!) or CuteFTP make file transfer point-and-click easy.
