Filter (email)

Programs that ingest data, transform it, and then spit it out are called filters. Many email programs utilize filters to allow you to sort your mail by date, name, or subject. Which, if you've ever had to sort through an inbox clogged with a tsunami of email ("the directions to that job interview are in here somewhere"), can be quite a time-saver. Career-saver even.
