Where
once bar-going singles exchanged phone numbers, now it's the email
address that gets scrawled across the backs of matchbooks. Short
for electronic mail, email is sent and received by millions of people
worldwide. No more waiting on the whims of the post office (and
its old-school "snailmail"); now people exchange simple, text-based
messages (or gild the lily with images, sound files, or other attachments)
that arrive at their destination almost instantaneously. |
